Nash steadied himself. “That is what I am saying. It’s too risky to kill the second Prince.”

“Guards!” King Sargus roared at the top of his lungs. The door opened quickly, and guards with drawn swords swarmed in looking for a threat. “Kill this traitor!” Sargus yelled, angrily.

Maybe if the King knew about Nash’s ability, he might have reacted differently, but it was too late. Nash was glad he never shared with anyone how he accomplished his kills. He froze time and quickly exited the castle. He held the time-stream as long as he dared before he released it; he was almost home when he finally did.

Upon entering his home, he hastily put together a travel bag with his most prized possessions and the loot he had stored over the years under a corner floorboard. He was ready to go in just a few minutes. Nash penned a quick note to Tom and stashed it with a few coins in the same spot he always left coin for Tom to take when he cared for his animals. The note was to let Tom know that he could take anything he wanted, and a sincere thank you, and an apology for leaving so quickly.

Nash mounted up and froze time again. He wanted to put some space between him and any potential pursuers before he headed south. There was a fishing village several days south that he had been to a long time ago. It would make a good place to retire.
