The King looked him in the eye, “Complete this task, and I will reward you well,” he said.

“You have always treated me well, your highness,” Nash answered. “I have prospered under your rule.”

“You look tired, Nash,” the King said with concern.

“I’m fine,” he lied. The truth was, he was experiencing occasional failures with his power, and he didn’t know what was causing it.

Agamen stepped forward again and handed a small sack to Nash. “That is for your travel,” King Sargus said as Nash received the bag. “The wedding is in five days.” 

“Thank you, Sire,” Nash said. “I will not let you down.” It was a three-day ride to the Drenad Kingdom’s center, which would leave him two days to infiltrate, assassinate, and extract himself from the area. “I will leave immediately,” he announced and spun on his heal. He marched from the room with haste.
